Getting Eisenglass, EZ2CY, and strataglass polished, cleaned, protected, and Looking like new again
Anyone who owns or works on someone elses boat knows that keeping the clear plastic or vinyl windows can sometimes feel impossible.
Overtime the window enclosures tend to become difficult to see through as the material fades, gets sun damaged, and accumulates tinny scratches that cause it to become difficult to see through.
There are various see through window products out there, Eisenglass is one of the most well known. But this is more like what Keenex is to Tissues. Eisenglass is just one of the many manufactures out there and actually. However most people refer to any clear plastic or vinyl window on a boat as an eisenglass enclosure, but in reality there are many many different types of products from various manufacturers.
The main see through plastic, vinyl, polycarbonate, or other material products out there that are installed on boats are Eisenglass, Strataglass, EZ2CY, Polycarbonate, Isinglass, Clear Vinyl, Easy to See, along with many others but those are the main ones.
So how do you keep all of these products looking good and like new over the years?
Picture Above is Before using A cleaner product on Eisenglass, and Strataglass, windows viewed from outside of dodger enclosure
You can see in the picture above all of the small scratches in the clear windows on the dodger. These all add up to make viewing in or out of the window difficult.
This particular example picture you do not have to much difficulty seeing through this clear vinyl eisenglass and strataglass enclosure. But look at the after pictures to see how much of a difference happens when using this amazing product.
After Using Plexus to quickly clean, polish, and protect the clear vinyl / plastic eisenglass enclosure.
The difference between the before and after pictures really show how well the product works, and really shows how bad the eisenglass actually was in the before picture. The amazing part though is how quickly this product works.
After picture is only after applying one quick coat to the surface of the eisenglass, then quickly wiping it off with a clean rag. Followed up with wiping it again with a new clean and dry rag to finish it off.
So what is this amazing, quick, and effective product?
Plexus is an amazing product to use on Eisenglass, Strataglass, EZ2CY, and other Clear Vinyl, Plastic, or Polycarbonate materials
To do the entire dodger of this 62 foot sailboat I used about half of a can while doing 2 coats on the outside and 1 coat in the inside of the enclosure. I try to do this process once every 6 months on most enclosures to keep the eisenglass the dodgers, center console wind screens, or flybridge enclosures looking like new.
So each treatment on this particular boat uses about a half of a can, which allows me to get a years worth of cleaning, polishing, and protecting out of one can of Plexus when applying it twice a year. Now the eisenglass, Strataglass, or CR2CY enclosure on your boat may be bigger or smaller so you may use up a whole can quicker or it may last much longer.
Granted I am also doing an extra coat every treatment on the outside which uses more of the product each treatment. However I think its worth the extra UV protection and anti static properties it gives the clear plastic windows.
Process to do those coats only took about 30 minutes and the results speak for themselves.
Best part is how quick and easy using Plexus is.
Simply spray Plexus onto the surface of the clear enclosure on the boat, then immediately wipe it off
Its as simple as spraying the product onto the clear eisenglass vinyl or strataglass. What is called eisenglass may encompass the entire enclosure or may be all sections except the middle piece.
The middle section or panel of the clear enclosure on boats and yachts is sometimes Strataglass which is a harder thicker material that does not like to be rolled up.
So strataglass or sometimes EZ2CY usually has a system to swing the panel up to the ceiling of the dodger or flybridge enclosure where it is secured flat.
After spraying Plexus onto the surface like in the picture above then quickly wipe off the product with a clean dry rag.
I usually follow that first rag up with a second one that is clean and dry designated as the follow up rag. The first rag I use gets the majority of the excess product off and the second one cleans the last reaming bit leaving the clear vinyl eisenglass enclosure super polished, clean and clear.

Originally developed for use in aviation, Plexus is quite simply the most effective product you can buy for cleaning, protecting, and polishing clear and colored plastics. Unlike conventional waxes, Plexus cleans as it polishes.
Plexus actually seals the pores of the plastic. It makes small scratches less visible, leaving a surface that’s fresh, lustrous, and protected. Plexus dries perfectly, no smears, no scratches, no smudges, and no oily, tacky or sticky residue. It’s anti-static, and you can apply it in mere seconds, in one simple step. All of which makes Plexus clear easier. Clearly unique. Clearly the best.
What Plexus cleans and protects

Is it just the outside of the window that needs to be cleaned or does the inside get faded also?
Both, inside and outside.
