Hurricane takes mans arm and his mother unfortunately perishes

Hurricane Dorian struck the Northern Bahamas with such strong winds that when it hit Great Guana Cay in the Abaco Islands the winds created a fast moving storm surge which rushed over the island destroying buildings in its path.

One of those buildings was Erick the barber’s house (That’s his nick name as he is actually the full time electrician at Baker’s Bay), Erick’s castle house was destroyed during the storm which forced them to be out in the storms fury.  His sister and son ended up hanging onto a tree to keep from being swept away by the storm surge.  While he hung onto his daughter in one hand and to his mother in the other.  Tragically a piece of ply wood propelled by the category 5 hurricanes winds struck Erick on the arm slicing his arm completely off that he was holding onto his mother with.  His mother was then washed away from him and his family in the storm surge.

After the storm he was airlifted to Florida where he went through surgery and was treated. This picture is of him before he was discharged from the hospital.  That smile shows how happy he is to be alive and getting the care needed, after all he went through he is truly #BahamasStong
