@island_time_37 fished off of islamorada in about 1500 feet of water and hooked into this monster swordfish.
Captains words:
We used a rigged eel on a glow in the dark squid. We got the bite about 15 min into our second drop – when we came tight, the fish immediately stopped the reel and pulled drag.
He ended up pulling about 300 revs from when we hooked him and then started to scope up. We fought the fish for about an hour and a half and then stuck him with a harpoon and 2 gaffs.
Once we had the fish landed we had to call capt Chase Fulton, on water damage out of bud and Mary’s to drop two guys on our boat to help pull the fish in.
It was only me and my dad, so we didn’t have a chance if getting that fish in! My largest fish to date and an unforgettable experience! The fish was so big it didn’t fit in the catch bag!
Fish had a lower jaw fork length of 108″ and weighted 671 lbs. A few more pictures of this beast of a swordfish are in the gallery below.
Fishermen have been catching MONSTER swordfish the past few years off Florida’s Coast
Islamorada in particular in the Florida Keys has been producing the most MONSTER swordfish the past few years. Nick Stanczyk caught a 757 pounder this past spring on March 31st 2019. And a 600.5 lb swordfish the year before.
