Amazon Wishlist: The response to the Amazon Wishlist has been astounding! But more items are needed, especially tools like chainsaws. If you cannot contribute directly yourself, maybe you know someone who can? Or, if you belong to a school group, church group, civic organization, or something similar, perhaps you would be interested in hosting a fundraiser to purchase some of the larger dollar items? Exigency Order: The Bahamian government recently released a set of forms related to the exigency order of September 2nd dealing with the importation of goods into the Bahamas from other locations. The forms can be found at https://www.bahamascustoms.gov.bs/hurricane-dorian-exigency-order-of-september-2-2019/. It is important that these forms be completed by anyone entering with goods prior to their entry. Keep checking back at that page for updates as they become available.
Boats and Vehicles: We have put out requests for loaner boats and vehicles over the past few weeks and would like to thank those of you who have helped. We are still in need of land and sea craft at this time to help with security and cleanup.
Many vehicles were left in the parking lot at Coco’s in Treasure Cay. We’ve posted photos of many of these vehicles on the website that can be found at https://www.treasurecaycommunity.com/car-gallery. If you know your vehicle is parked here, we would appreciate you lending it to the security and cleanup efforts. Even if you cannot loan it out at this time, we would like to know the location of the keys to many of these vehicles so they can be moved as the resort will be setting up a camp for relief and reconstruction efforts in that area. Treasure Cay Resort Layoffs: With nothing left to sustain employment, Treasure Cay Resort has had to lay off most of its staff. As a worst-case scenario, they may not be able to re-employ staff for up to two years. Robert Meister is quoted as saying that every building they have was left in ruins or extensively damaged. Some employees have been reassigned and kept on depending on their skills, such as at the fuel station. He said nobody wants to be in this position and that it will be hard for a long time, but the resort will do their part to make Treasure Cay even stronger. Ground Conditions: We wanted to send a reminder to those homeowners who wish to go into Treasure Cay. Conditions on the ground are still very difficult. If you are going to be flying into TCB, you need to arrange your own ground transportation – no taxi services are available at this point. In addition, you need to be prepared to be self-sustaining while there for the day as resources on the ground are still limited. Message from Bob Goossens & Alan Hauch: TC homeowners Bob Goossens and Alan Hauch recently spent 13 days on the ground building 4 of Atlantis as their basecamp.
Bob and Alan were able to distribute several generators, gas, food, clothing, supplies, tools and cash to many victims of Dorian during their stay in Treasure Cay. They were able to gather personal belonging from the condos of several Atlantis residents upon the request of the owners, as well as take photos of the properties with Bob also taking drone footage to share with other homeowners. They cleared access to units to make it easier for insurance adjusters to enter units. Bob and Alan were able to meet with insurance adjuster Richard Parker, who flew in for the day.
When Bob and Alan’s buddy’s boat (Mark Smiley & Joe Belanger) arrived in Treasure Cay, it was loaded with meat, produce, building supplies, tarps, clothes, work boots, shoes, more generators, and other items. Bob, Alan, Mark, and Joe quickly got busy distributing supplies as they knew the weather window to leave the island was open the next day. Thursday morning the four cooked a hot breakfast of bacon and eggs for the locals before they departed back to Florida.
Bob continues to correspond with Richard Parker, the insurance adjuster. Bob has shared his drone footage with him as Richard believes it will be helpful. He has also recommended that engineers inspect cases. (Source: Internal communications.)
